Locally known as Balakbak; Malapako. A stout, erect, coarse, seldom shrubby and branched, leaves; simple, alternate, ovate-lanceolate, flowers; solitary, axillary, small, sessile. petals light yellow, up to 5, broadly ovate or curneate, fruit; green sometimes purple, cylindrical, 8 ribbed containing small numerous seeds. Widely distributed in the tropics. Named after a German Botanist, C.G.Ludwig.

An ascending, erect, branched, annual herb, up to 60 cm long, stems are angled, leaves; ob-lanceolate to lanceolate, narrowed at both ends, longer than wide, loosely dense, flowers; short pedicelled, small, axillary, solitary, sessile, petals; yellow, oblong elliptic, approximately up to 3 mm long, widely spreading, fruits; slender linear capsules, 4 circular angles, greenish sometimes purplish, seeds; in a common single row.
Lygodium japonicum
Locally known as nitong-nitong; commonly known as Japaneseclimbing fern. A slender, twining, deciduous member of the fern family, up to 3 meters in length, glaborous, rachis; narrowly winged, pinnate, fronds; bright green, divided into numerous long leafltes varies from circular to narrow and sometimes lobed basally, pinnules up to 5 on each side. Ferns require moist to survive, propagated through division. Widely distributed in east and southeast Asia.
