A coarse, erect, distantly branched, herb, leaves; obovate to elliptic, curly margins, spikes; are rigid, long, rough. flowers; green, the stamens and staminodes pale- purplish, Buds are ascending, flowers are spreading. Commonly found in waste fields through out the Philippines and most of tropical countries.
Ageratum conyzoides L.
Locally known as bulac manoc. It is a loosely growing, branched, smelly, cottony, slender herb, leaves; opposite, with long petiole, broad at base, ovate, crenate, flower heads; compact, in clusters, cottony, small, dense and terminal, white or light violet rarely pink, bracts; oblong. In waste places but sometimes cultivated, flowers annually throughout the Philippines and the tropics. Native to Mexico.
Alternanthera sessiles amoena
A very dwarf plant mostly in the tropics, the cultivated kinds are herbaceous or treated as such, used for carpet-bedding. Leaves are opposite, narrow, petiolate or tapering at base; flowers are small, in dense small usually sessile glomerules mostly in the axils.
Amaranthus spinosus
A stout, armed with slender axillary spikes, leaves; long-petioled, oblong to ob-ovate to elleptic-lanceolate, obtuse, flowers; in ascending erect clusters, axillary and elongated, terminal, flowers; with spikes, light green to green with tint of white. Found in waste places and gardens, through out the Philippines and other tropical countries.
Amaranthus virides
An annual grass, erect, branched, coarse, leaves; with long and slender petiole, obtuse, notched tip, various size, spikes; terminal and axillary, uninterrupted, flowers; small, densely scattered, green to light yellow, seeded. Found in open waste places and gardens, all the year throughout the Philippines.
Antigonon leptopus
Locally known as Cadena de Amor (Sp.) and known in the West as Coral Vine, Corallita, Rosa de Montana, Pink Vine or Confederate Vine. Climbing, woody vines from thickened roots, leaves; bigger in size at the lower region, alternate, cordate, stem-clasping petioles. panicles; axillary sometimes terminal, the rachis; extended as a tendril, flowers; many in clusters, bright to deep pink sometimes white, about 1 cm. long, fascicled. In waste places but sometimes cultivated, flowers all the year. A native of Mexico, now cultivated in many tropical countries.
Axonopus compressus
Commonly known as Carpet Grass. Axon-opus; Greek, axis foot. Comprised of a slender spike-like racemes, digitate, or racemose along the axis usually in pairs, spikelets; sessile, alternate, solitary in 2 rows on side of a 3-angled rachis. leaves; short, about 15 cm wide, flat with abruptly sharp apex. In pasture fields throughout the Philippines and the tropics, also employed for lawns.
